#TBT: 1988 NBA Playoffs – Dominique vs Bird, Hawks vs Celtics (Video)

imageIn honor of the fantastic duel we’re witnessing between Houston Rockets guard James Harden, and Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry. It’s only right to feature another duel from yesteryear. Dominique’s Atlanta Hawks vs Larry Bird’s Boston Celtics.

This is still quite possibly the most talked about game in Atlanta Hawks history. It’s also still one of the most memorable games in playoff history. A day short of 27 years ago, on May 22nd, 1988 Wilkins and Bird put on an absolute show! Going blow for blow. Shot for shot! Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Nique, 47 points. Bird 34 points. The Human Highlight Film, would score 14 of his points in the 4th quarter. Unfortunately, for Wilkins and the Hawks, Bird would score 20 of his points in the 4th and ultimately carry the Celtics on to the Eastern Conference Finals with a 118-116 victory. The Celtics would go on to lose to the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference Finals, ending a run of four consecutive NBA Finals appearances. The series between the Hawks and Celtics will always be looked at as one of the best in NBA playoff history.
