This College Football season has been filled with memorable moments and fantastic finishes. Now, it’s time to crown a champion. The next leg of the journey kicks off in Atlanta Chick Fil-A Peach Bowl, and in Glendale Arizona with the Playstation Fiesta Bowl. Who wins and makes the trip to Tampa next Monday night? And, what about the remainder of the New Year’s Six matchups? Sports & Swag previews and predicts each game, starting with tonight’s Orange Bowl between the Michigan Wolverines and Florida State Seminoles.
1. ALABAMA (-14) vs 4. WASHINGTON
The PAC-12 champion Huskies come in as a heavy underdog against the defending champs. But, U-Dub has the ability to beat anyone in the nation with Chris Peterson as head coach, and Jake Browning at quarterback. The Huskies blew through the PAC-12, much like the Tide blew through the SEC. However, the Huskies lone loss came to USC. The same team that Bama humiliated in the opening game of the season 52-6. The Trojans are a much better squad now, and proved they were better overall than Washington. The Huskies are a very strong team, and will present problems for the Tide. But, in the end, the talent level of the players wearing Crimson & White will be too much to overcome. Take the Tide. BAMA 36-17
2. CLEMSON vs 3. OHIO STATE (-2.5)
Ohio State is here despite being very young and not even making the Big Ten title game. Their wins over Oklahoma and Michigan are two of the most impressive of the season. The Tigers are here after winning the ACC title, beating Louisville and Florida State along the way. Both teams have had their ups and downs offensively. Watson, got off to a slow start that ultimately cost him the Heisman Trophy, and J.T. Barrett had his inconsistencies as well. But, there is an advantage in this game, and it’s on the defensive side of the ball. The Buckeyes have been a little more trustworthy than Clemson. The Tigers are younger on defense and have given up 34 points or more four times. That’s enough for me. Take the Buckeyes in a tight one in the desert. BUCKEYES 33-27.
MICHIGAN (-7) vs FLORIDA STATE
The Wolverines probably should have beaten Ohio State. They didn’t. So, here they are. Jim Harbaugh’s squad has been more impressive for much of the season. But, Jimbo Fisher’s squad has gotten things in gear as of late. Still, Michigan just seems like the better team here. Take Michigan. WOLVERINES 27-17
USC vs PENN STATE (+7)
In what could be the game of the bowl season besides the Playoffs, Take the Nittany Lions to cover. But, TROJANS win the game 27-24
AUBURN vs OKLAHOMA (-3) The Tigers are very strong defensively, and with Camryn Pettway back in the fold along with Sean White the Sooners have a problem. Still should be a very good game, however. TIGERS 31-23
WESTERN MICHIGAN vs WISCONSIN (-8)
The Broncos come in undefeated as a Group of Five member, and are very dangerous. However, as long as the Badgers come in focused their depth up front offensively and defensively should be too much. BADGERS 27-17.
