Do you believe in superstitions? How about the Kardashian curse? You know……the hex or jinx that the Kardashians – Khloe and Kim – have seemed to place on star athletes and celebrities they’ve either dated or married. The list is long. Kanye West, Kris Humphries, James Harden, O’Dell Beckham Jr., and maybe the worst case of them all, Lamar Odom, amongst others. Now, there’s talk of Khloe’s current man, Tristan Thompson. Surely, Lebron James doesn’t believe in this, right? Maybe…..maybe not.
The struggle is real in Cleveland these days. So much so, that Lebron is reportedly starting to believe in superstitions. So much so, that he thinks the Cavs’ problems are due to the Kardashian curse. At least, that’s what an article by The Hollywood Gossip is reporting. After, seeing the Cavs lose for a third time this week – one a blowout at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs – the thought of them being cursed looks more logical.
Khloe Kardashian, who’s current claim to fame is her man-made gluteus maximus, has been dating the Cavs’ big man for quite sometime now. But, while things seem to be great between the two lovebirds, the same can’t be said about the defending champs.
Cleveland ended the month March with a 7-10 record. Even worse, the Cavs lost three games in a row twice in the month. That’s some March Madness for ya right there! Especially, now that we’re nearing the NBA Playoffs. Teams usually want to be hitting their stride right about now. But, right now the only thing seemingly hitting their stride are Tristan and Khloe. They’re hitting their stride could be hurting the Cavs flow. And, their flow could be hurting the Cavs’ stride and…….well…..you get the picture.
Of course, this is the same team that was down 3-1 against the Warriors in last season’s Finals. So, adversity is nothing new to them. But, there just seems to be a different vibe about this team. If nothing else, there’s definitely a difference on how this team defends. The Cavs and any team Lebron plays for prides itself on defense. But, this season Cleveland places 23rd in the NBA in opponent points per game. Since the All-Star break, the Cavs have the second worst defense in the NBA. That’s a drastic decline from last season.
Now, it’s nothing out of the ordinary to see a defending champion struggle the season following their title. However, most teams that go on to repeat usually would have hit their stride by now. Except for a few decent stretches, it’s hard to find a stretch of the season where the Cavs have been truly dominant.
This supposed Kardashian curse is just another chapter in what’s been a very weird season for Lebron. He and Thompson have had their issues with each other. Then, it was he and Charles Barkley going at it back and forth, after the Cavs traded for Kyle Korver. Barkley, criticized Lebron for not having heart and not wanting to work for a championship. Lebron, clapped back bringing up negative things from Barkley’s past. Then, it was the issue of rest. Lebron, had much attitude when members of the media came down on the Cavs for resting their star players in an ABC Primetime Saturday Night game against the Clippers.
Incidents like these can take it’s toll on any team, causing disarray and negativity in the locker room. And, the one person that Lebron has yet blame for any of this negativity is……Lebron.
Now, the Cavs’ recent struggles is Khloe’s fault.
If the Kardashian curse is real, it’s not affecting Thompson very much. In fact, his scoring and rebounding is about the same as it’s been since Lebron arrived back in Cleveland. Thompson, is performing closer to his potential than James Harden, O’Dell Beckham Jr., and Lamar Odom performed when they were ‘involved’ with Khloe. Harden, came into camp last season out of shape, out of focus, and it showed. Beckham Jr. is still dropping passes, and Odom, who was married to Khloe, has seemingly never fully recovered from events that nearly cost him his life.
Despite talk of this Kardashian curse, Khloe and Kim continue to be able to woo these athletes and celebs. Tristan Thompson is just the next man in line. And, it’s certainly coincidental that the Cavs are struggling while he’s dating a Kardashian. But, it’s time for Lebron and the Cavs to figure out what they’re not doing. Of course, it starts on the defensive end. It’s also about the Cavs getting healthy.
Sure, the Cavs have had their injuries. J.R. Smith just came back from an injury that’s sidelined him all season. Iman Shumpert has been sidelined. Kevin Love is back now from an injury that cost him several weeks, and now the injury bug has hit Kyle Korver. But, he should be fine once we get into the playoffs.
Despite, the improved play from the Washington Wizards, and the continued nice play by the Boston Celtics, the Cavaliers are still by far and away the best and deepest team in the east. However, their recent struggles have them in a battle to maintain home court advantage. Now, we’ve seen what Lebron and these Cavs can do in a Game 7 on the road. So, it’s far from panic time in Cleveland. I still think, when they have their act together, they’re still the best team in the NBA. But, at some point this team has to stop blaming everything on the media and Khloe Kardashian and just play ball. That starts with their leader, superstitious as he may be.
